Hate being on camera? Yep, me too. So much so, that I’m currently working with a video coach to help me out.
What I’ve learnt so far (apart from the video editing)
- Different script ideas to help me deliver a message
- Winging it doesn’t work
- Bring in personality, rather than sticking to the facts
Hmmm… so pretty similar to what I might be sharing with people learning to present or train.
I get that it might seem strange that I’ve got a coach for pretty much the same thing that I support others with … but here’s the thing.
Having someone else to bounce ideas with, give me feedback, share their perspective, take me step by step through the editing process and hold me accountable for actually getting it done has been invaluable.
And if you want to see the first video – you can check it out here.
So, let’s talk about why it might be an idea for you.
- Recording yourself giving a presentation or update – then watching or even just listening to it back will give you great insights on where you can improve. Little tweaks that can have a massive impact on your credibility and reputation
- If you’re in-house, you could create content videos to share ideas, develop people, give guidance on processes. All so much more impactful than bog standard LMS content
- If you’re freelance, video could help people feel like they know you more and make a more informed decision about whether you’re someone they’d like to work with
Is now the week to step a little outside your comfort zone? You KNOW that’s where the magic happens!
P.S. I talked above about how invaluable it was to have someone to bounce ideas with, give feedback, share their perspective, take me step by step through a process and hold me accountable for actually getting it done.
