You’ll be in one of 3 camps:
- You know what a retro is, and you hold them regularly
- You know what a retro is, and you don’t hold them often
- You don’t know what a retro is
The great news is, whatever camp you’re in, you might find a little gem right here.
In a nutshell, if you’re in camp 3: a ‘retrospective’ (retro) is reflecting back on a project or piece of work or team meeting and considering what went well, what didn’t and lessons learnt.
At it’s simplest, you could just ask those questions. But there are loads of ways you can mix it up to keep it interesting.
And you can even hold a retro just by yourself – using the same techniques.
Check out my blog here. There are links to pages with retro ideas, as well as more on the how and why of reflective learning.
My go-to retro technique is the Sailboat. It’s visual, simple to grasp and can be used in so many when you facilitate groups too. For example, exploring team or company culture.
