Have you played Wordle? It became HUGE over lockdown, and for good reason. It’s simple, competitive – and gives us a great sense of satisfaction when we complete it.
So you might be asking why I’m mentioning it today. Simply because Brain teasers may help to stimulate the grey matter and help us think in new ways.
I say may, because whilst some neurologists believe that problem solving games and activities could help to train us to find new connections, think outside the box and to develop creative problem-solving skills and concentration – the jury is still out about the level or depth of improvement you’ll get.
Maybe the best bet is to play it if you enjoy it, or to focus on something specifically designed to build your cognitive ability in a certain area. Like learning a new skill.
This Harvard Health post shares more on how “embracing a new activity that forces you to think, learn and requires ongoing practice can be one of the best ways to keep the brain healthy.”
How about you set yourself a goal to do ‘something’ new this week?
Whether it’s trying Wordle for the first time to see what all the fuss is about, or starting to learn something you’ve had on your to-do list for a little while?
